Sumi-e is a Japanese term that means painting with ink. This type of painting, also referred to as East Asian brush painting, originated in China many centuries ago, and spread throughout the region. It is now practiced in the U.S. and in many other countries. The medium is ink and rice paper. The brushes are made from bamboo and natural fibers. Those attending the class will learn the basic skills and do paintings of a camellia, a pine branch, and a landscape. All materials will be provided.
