AUTHENTIC CHICAGO BLUES BAND IN BERKELEY SPRINGS

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV --- Homegrown blues and soul are the sound presented by Larry Taylor and Chicago Blues at the free concert in Berkeley Springs State Park on Saturday, August 16 at 5:30pm. Produced by the Morgan Arts Council, the concert's rain location is the nearby Ice House.

Larry Taylor has music in his blood and childhood. His parents were notables in the early days of Chicago blues and the house was always filled with blues legends from Muddy Waters to Elmore James. Starting with pots and pans as a toddler, Taylor soon graduated to a child-size drum set and his career path was set. "I can recall a time," says Larry, "if you couldn't play the blues, there wasn't no need of you tryin to go around the legendarys."

Having spent thirty years on drums contributing his impeccable timekeeping and bludgeoning backbeat behind some of the greatest blues, soul and jazz artists of all time, Taylor decided to step out from the shadows of the stage to take the microphone and enter a new phase of his musical career, fronting his current band.

In addition to performing many traditional tunes, Taylor also has original compositions including those written with band member, Barrelhouse Bonnie, a native of nearby Capon Springs. The tight ensemble, Taylor's choice selections and original material emphasize the rhythm and the culturally-rooted groove in the blues and soul.

The MAC Summer Concerts in the Park are sponsored by Carl M. Freeman Foundation. Additional funding for the free concert is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, West Virginia Commission on the Arts and local hotel/motel tax revenues.
