SUMMER CAMP AT ICE HOUSE FEATURES ARTS AND FILM

BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV ---- The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) announces its
second round of summer arts camps with visual arts for the younger
kids and video plus visual arts for teens. Two sessions of a weeklong
summer camp begin on Monday, July 19 and are held at the Ice House in
downtown Berkeley Springs.

Animal Art Safari guides six to nine-year olds on an exploration of
how animals influence art. Students will use materials such as wool
fiber, clay, recycled materials, natural dyes and the water of
Berkeley Springs as well as having fun with traditional stories and
camp games. The daylong camp runs from 10am to 3pm with snacks and
materials provided although campers should bring their own lunch.
"I'm excited to be working with the kids," said potter Lynn Lavin who
is teaching the arts class. Lavin specializes in using animal themes
in her own art and promises that the camp will be exciting.

Anthony Bellissimo, an award-winning young videographer, continues his
film work with local kids in the other weeklong camp that also adds
visual arts activities. Youth from nine to seventeen can enroll in
the Summer Arts and Film Studio where the focus is on "see what you're
looking at." Campers are encouraged to draw, paint and video in ways
they never before considered and then to assemble collages from their
different work. "Anthony will be teaching hands-on production as well
as just filming," said Jennie Mallory, coordinator for MAC's arts
programs. Art supplies are provided.

"We're excited to offer these two camps on the heels of the very
successful summer theater camp," said Mallory.

Funding assistance for the camps is provided by grants from the West
Virginia Commission on the Arts and West Virginia Afterschool
Network. For more information and to register, contact 304-258-2300
or check online at www.macicehouse.org. The Ice House is located on
Independence and Mercer in Berkeley Springs.
