FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- 7/18/07
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV -----Seventeen local youth from ages five through 12 perform in the musical version of the Robin Hood legend as the finale of their two weeks of summer theater camp at the Ice House. The free performance of Hi, Ho! Robin Hood is 7pm on Friday, July 20 at the Ice House.
"The kids have been working hard every day putting together the performance," said Morgan Arts Council Executive Director, Mary Hott. I'm sure there are a number of parents who have spent the past week or so helping their kids learn their lines and listening to songs from the show," said Hott. "I know I have."
The students have been learning a full range of theater skills from singing and dancing to stage combat and costuming from teachers Margi Griffiths and Brice Williams. Both are faculty for the upcoming weeklong theater camp in Paw Paw in August. Griffiths is scheduled to teach a monthly Saturday morning class in theater arts for children at the Ice House beginning on October 13.
The performance is open to the public. "I hope members of the community join the families of these students at the performance," said Hott. "They will be watching the future of theater in Berkeley Springs."
Ice House Summer Theater Camp is part of the Morgan Arts Council's Youth Art program. It is funded in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, West Virginia Commission on the Arts and local hotel/motel tax. MAC is a United Way Agency.
