FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- 6/17/07
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV -----A pair of celebrity bikes are again on display at the Vroom Vroom art and motorcycle show at the Ice House Gallery in Berkeley Springs. Returning are the popular 84 Lumber bike and the one from Fear Factor featuring a clear view tank filled with worms. "We've achieved our goal with Vroom Vroom," said Jane Frenke, chair of the Morgan Arts Council's Gallery committee. "We have seen lots of new faces coming to the Ice House Gallery, people we discover have never been in any gallery before." Vroom Vroom is the gallery show devoted to motorcycles portrayed in dozens of art media ranging from quilts, photography and ceramics to wood carvings, film and chocolate. It can be seen Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm and hangs through July 1.
Saturday, June 23 offers riding activities as well as the art show as Ridersville Cycle stages a "ride at your leisure" Poker Run for the arts. "People can start on the Poker Run from Ridersville anytime after 9am and ride at their own pace," said lady biker, Claudia Rauch, curator of the Vroom Vroom show. "The winner is announced at 3pm." Rauch also announced that Ridersville has door prizes for riders during the day.
Following the Poker Run, a motorcycle parade leaves Ridersville at 4:45pm to ride into town assembling at Berkeley Springs State Park for bike admiring and music. Tim Kelly leads the parade on his light-decorated Vulcan Classic.
Among the most popular features of the show has been the showings at 2pm every day the gallery is open of the Academy Award-winning
short film My Mother Dreams the Satan's Disciples in New York by Barbara Shock. "The film is sweet and funny and people have been giving it great reviews," said Rauch. "We've had up to 25 people at a time in watching it."
Travel Berkeley Springs (TBS) announced a positive response to their new Website feature of printable maps for seven self-guided rides around the region. "Encouraging motorcycle enthusiasts to choose Berkeley Springs as a destination is now a permanent activity for us," said TBS administrator, Laura Smith. "Shops and especially places to eat love seeing all the motorcycles coming to town." Smith also pointed out several TBS members who have special motorcycle activities. The Best Western is officially "Harley friendly" with complimentary wipe down rags and washing station and they have a special price this weekend for bikers no matter what their brand. Tari's Cafe is offering free soft drinks with all meals when bikers show their helmets. "It can get a little crowded with all those helmets," said Smith, "but Tari's has always been a motorcycle magnet."
The curated gallery exhibit produced by the Morgan Arts Council is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the
West Virginia Commission on the Arts and hotel/motel tax revenues. The Ice House is located on the corner of Independence and Mercer.
